The Gial College of Higher Education in Katsina, in affiliation with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, has held its maiden convocation ceremony, graduating 100 students for the first time since its establishment.
The event, which took place on Saturday at the institution’s auditorium in Lambun Danlawan, was attended by academics, parents, relatives, well-wishers, and top officials from ABU.
In his address, the Registrar of the College, Dr. Sirajo Aminu, noted that the convocation coincided with the second anniversary of the institution’s academic activities. He commended the founder of the college, Hon. Hamisu Gambo (Danlawan Katsina), describing him as the pillar behind its successes.
“Honourable Danlawan has been the backbone of this institution. At inception, he personally sponsored 30 students to begin classes, shouldering all expenses. To date, about 85 percent of the college’s achievements can be traced to his support,” Dr. Aminu said.
He added that the college is working towards securing full accreditation to commence degree programmes in various disciplines.
Also speaking, ABU’s representative, Dr. Aliyu Sani Kiyawa, applauded the institution for adhering to the academic standards set by the university, affirming that ABU is satisfied with the quality of its operations.
For his part, Hon. Hamisu Gambo Danlawan, who is regarded as the “father and pillar” of the college, expressed delight at the collaboration with ABU, which made it possible for the institution to offer diploma programmes under the university’s supervision.
“Today, 100 of our students have successfully completed diploma programmes from ABU Zaria. This is a remarkable milestone for us. We remain grateful to ABU and the Katsina State Higher Education Board for approving this partnership,” he said.
Danlawan further appreciated individuals who assisted in sponsoring students, citing Ambassador Yahaya Lawal, Hon. Yusuf Majigiri, and Hon. Sani Danlami among the notable contributors.
He urged the graduating students to apply the knowledge they have acquired and pursue further studies to higher levels.
The 100 graduates were drawn from five academic departments: Integrated Science, Islamic Studies, English, Hausa, and Library Studies.
